“A PERFECT WEEK, MY BEST TENNIS OF 2024”

MARCHESINI: “WE ARE WORKING TO RAISE THE STANDARDS”

Carlos Taberner is the sixteenth champion of the Internazionali di Tennis Città di Todi | Sidernestor Tennis Cup. In an evening with a splendid crowd, capable of filling the stands of the Central Court of the Tennis Club Todi 1971, the Spanish tennis player defeated Santiago Rodriguez Taverna 6-4 6-3. The Challenger 75 organized by MEF Tennis Events is the seventh title in the category for the former ATP number 85 out of eleven finals played. In the doubles, the title went to Ivan and Matej Sabanov, capable of beating Filip Bergevi and Mick Veldheer 6-4 7-6(3).

Taberner plays the seventh symphony in Todi – Carlos Taberner has done it. The former ATP No. 85 lifted the seventh Challenger trophy of his career in Umbria, after defeating Santiago Rodriguez Taverna 6-4, 6-3. “It was a week full of very long matches,” the 1997-born Valencian said with satisfaction. “Today I managed to win in straight sets, even though Santiago showed great quality on the court as always. I’m happy because I showed I’m still in excellent physical and mental condition. In this sport, it’s very difficult to be consistently at the top of your game, and personally, I had a difficult start to the season, but I never stopped working hard.” With his victory in Umbria, Taberner climbs 56 spots in the rankings, moving just outside the Top 200 at No. 205 ATP: “I don’t pay much attention to the rankings and I leave the statistics to the experts. My big goal is simply to play as many tournaments as possible in my best condition. The atmosphere in Todi? It was special. We feel truly pampered here, and I have to thank all the staff and the crowd for contributing to seven unforgettable days.” With this week’s result, Rodriguez Taverna also climbs forty spots, rising to No. 240 in the world rankings.

Marchesini looks to the future – After the sixteenth edition of the Internazionali di Tennis Città di Todi | Sidernestor Tennis Cup, it’s time for responses from MEF Tennis Events President Marcello Marchesini: “Todi is our tournament par excellence. It’s obviously played during a scorching week, so we must thank all the collaborators who enthusiastically contributed to the creation of another great edition. It’s one of the longest-running events in Italy, trailing only a few other historic tournaments, but the goal isn’t just to reach the twentieth edition. We’re in constant dialogue with the ATP and the Municipality of Todi to improve and satisfy all stakeholders. There’s a lot to do, and we’re already investing because we truly care about this tournament, which is our hometown.” To further enhance the tournament’s level of hospitality, we maintain ongoing dialogue with the city council: “We’ve been passionately supporting this event with Mayor Antonino Ruggiano since 2007, and by next year we aim to complete all the necessary renovations to maintain the tournament’s high standard. The Todi date is the sixth of our season, but we’ll be back with the Challenger 125 in Olbia from October 13th to 20th. Last year, we signed a two-year agreement with an option for a third, and we’re very excited about it. After Sardinia, we’ll continue in 2025 with the three stops in Spain, in Tenerife.”
