The restart tournament: Todi, the Tennis Club Todi 1971, in collaboration with MEF Tennis Events, organized the Challenger that marked the restart of international tennis competitions post-lockdown.
The 2020 edition of the tournament tripled the value of the previous eleven editions, featuring an ATP Challenger 100 with a prize pool of $104,160, featuring rising tennis stars such as Carlos Alcaraz, Lorenzo Musetti, Hugo Gaston, Giulio Zeppieri, Flavio Cobolli, Matteo Gigante, and established athletes such as Marco Cecchinato, Roberto Carballes Baena, and Facundo Bagnis.
Along with the other events held at the same club, the ATP Challenger tournament represented a prestigious showcase of national and international visibility for the city of Todi and the Umbria Region, guaranteeing significant economic benefits and increased attendance during the mid-season.
Since 2007, the Internazionali di Tennis dell’Umbria has been a launching pad for athletes such as David Goffin, Grigor Dimitrov, Marcel Granollers, Kevin Anderson, Benoit Paire, Carlos Berlocq, Marco Cecchinato, Filippo Volandri, Lorenzo Sonego, Matteo Berrettini, and the unforgettable Federico Luzzi. It has also provided an opportunity to see historic figures on clay, such as Thomas Muster, former world No. 1 born in 1987, and Gaston Gaudio, 2004 Roland Garros winner and former world No. 5.
The 2017 edition saw the crowning of another of tennis’s greats: Federico Delbonis, the second Argentine to add his name to the tournament’s roll of honor, following compatriot Carlos Berlocq’s two consecutive victories in 2010 and 2011. Over the past eleven years, the tournament has earned a prominent position on the international scene: “This tournament,” commented Sergio Palmieri, “is growing in quality year after year, both in terms of player quality and organization. Today, it represents one of the most important stages in Italy. Great credit, therefore, goes to Marcello Marchesini and Francesco Cancellotti for the expertise and passion they have shown over the years.”
The fifteenth edition took place in 2023, with Luciano Darderi winning in one of the most thrilling finals ever played on Todi’s Centre Court. In 2024, the winner was Carlos Taberner.
The seventeenth edition is scheduled for August 10 to 16, 2025: the show is guaranteed.
