THE TODI CHALLENGER CELEBRATES ITS SEVENTH EDITION

TABERNER RETURNS TO UMBRIA, WITH TRAVAGLIA AND CECCHINATO

DAVIS CUP IN THE CITY ON AUGUST 9TH AND 10TH

Todi, July 22, 2025 – The Internazionali di Tennis Città di Todi | CERgo Tennis Cup is ready to restart with its seventeenth edition. The Tennis Club Todi 1971 will open its doors from August 10th to 16th for the Challenger 75 tournament, one of Italy’s longest-running events. Following the participation of players of the caliber of Carlos Alcaraz and Luciano Darderi in previous years, the 2024 event saw the first victories in the category from the young talent Pierluigi Basile, while the presence of reigning champion Carlos Taberner is confirmed for this year. The presentation press conference will be held on August 9th at 10:30 a.m., with a special guest: the Davis Cup will be on display with free admission in the Sala Vetrata dei Portici Comunali, as part of the Trophy Tour organized by the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation.

The Tennis Club Todi 1971 gets a new look – This year, more than ever, the appearance of the Tennis Club Todi 1971 will be different to the many fans who will flock to watch the tournament. This is thanks to investments made through the synergy between MEF Tennis Events and the Municipality of Todi, in order to meet the ATP’s requests for increased standards for the Challenger category. “From September 2007 to August 2025, the emotion I feel is always the same,” said Marcello Marchesini, sole director of MEF Tennis Events. “In 18 years, we have organized 17 editions of ATP Challenger Tour tournaments, 5 ITF Women’s Circuit tournaments, a Serie A1 championship final, the Italian Absolute Championships, and numerous Italian Under Championships in the splendid municipal facility of the Tennis Club Todi 1971. Players of the caliber of Daniil Medvedev, Thomas Muster, Carlos Alcaraz, Lorenzo Musetti, Gaston Gaudio, Filippo Volandri, Lorenzo Sonego, Flavio Cobolli, Luciano Darderi, Simone Bolelli, Marco Cecchinato, Jasmine Paolini, and dozens of other top 100 players have graced our courts. Our club absolutely wants to keep an ATP Challenger tournament in Todi! To do so, significant investments have been requested by the ATP. This year we will inaugurate a gym and A players’ lounge housed in two beautiful new facilities, perfectly integrated into the club’s setting, as well as a new clay court. These are significant investments that, without the synergy and collaboration with the municipal administration, would not have been possible. Furthermore, the FITP wanted to recognize the Tennis Club Todi 1971 and MEF Tennis Events by including the town in the Trophy Tour: on August 9th and 10th, the Davis Cup will be on display and open to the public free of charge in the Sala Vetrata in Piazza Garibaldi.

The alliance with the Municipality of Todi is renewed – As every year, the support of the Municipality of Todi, represented by Mayor Antonino Ruggiano, is fundamental to the tournament’s realization: “When the Internazionali di Tennis Città di Todi began 18 years ago, we were full of enthusiasm, but we never imagined that we would find ourselves here, almost two decades later, experiencing such extraordinary moments for the entire Italian tennis movement. The successes, starting with the exceptional ones of Jannik Sinner and the other Italian champions of the racket, have ignited a passion and media attention for tennis that are second only to that experienced by Italians for the national football team. If we then consider that some of the leaders of the ATP world rankings, protagonists in the recent Roland Garros and Wimbledon finals, such as Carlos Alcaraz, have played on the courts of the Tennis Club Todi, the satisfaction is truly complete. With this background, the city is ready to host the 2025 edition, in the full knowledge that we will experience days of great sport and competition and that the image of Todi will be enhanced.” will once again have a positive impact on international tourism promotion.”

CERgo is the tournament’s new title sponsor – For the seventeenth edition of the Challenger 75, the ambitions of the renewable energy community CERgo and those of MEF Tennis Events have come together to promote a message of sustainability. “The concept of energy communities is the construction of plants that produce green energy available to citizens, businesses, and institutions,” explained one of the founding members, Salvatore Micoli –. Its use is essential to reducing CO2 emissions worldwide, a message we believe is very important to spread as widely as possible. The synergy with MEF Tennis Events was born in March during a padel tournament, and we are very happy that it is continuing now and hopefully over the years with tennis.” In Umbria, in Todi and Foligno, there are two plants capable of producing green energy: “They are fundamental places to carry out this mission. Over the past few months, we’ve made significant progress, but we must do even better to ensure that more and more citizens, businesses, and institutions use them to develop and consume clean energy.

Defending champion Taberner leads the entry list – Same story, same place, same bar. Exactly 12 months after winning the sixteenth edition of the Umbrian event, ATP No. 111 Carlos Taberner will once again be in Todi, leading the entry list. Three Italian players are also among the protagonists of the Umbrian tournament: in addition to Federico Arnaboldi, Stefano Travaglia and Marco Cecchinato have also joined the ranks, fresh from winning the Modena and Milan Challengers, respectively. The second seed is Swiss Jerome Kym: currently ranked No. 145 in the world, the twenty-two-year-old won two titles in the category last year, while just a few days ago he reached the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 in Gstaad. Among the interesting names in the starting lineup is Federico Coria, Brother of former ATP No. 3 and former Argentina national team captain Guillermo, as well as holder of six ATP titles.
